Maclay will host AIM workshop Monday

spanish Maclay School will host an AIM Professional Development workshop for foreign language teachers and parents on Monday, March 27.  The workshop will take place from 4:30pm-6:30pm at Maclay School, 3737 North Meridian Road. There is no charge to attend but participants must pre-register.

AIM (Accelerative Integrated Methodology) brings true transformation to the experience of teaching and learning languages.  Representative Chris Dorsey will be making the presentation.  Ms. Dorsey has a Masters in French from George Mason University and currently teaches at Liberty High School in Virginia.

“AIM has radically re-thought the instructional assumptions underlying second language learning, and the results are outstanding with respect to students’ growth in oral and written proficiency and in their enjoyment of learning a world language,” said Jim Cummins, an international researcher in language education.

Educators and parents who attend the workshop will have the opportunity to gain practical knowledge about how to implement the AIM strategies, discover why learning the language through stories is effective, learn some of the songs, dances, games, and gestures to teach essential high-frequency vocabulary.  Languages covered include French, Spanish, English, Mandarin, and Japanese.

“One of the things I like about this program is that my students are learning Spanish in the same way they learned their mother tongue,” said host organizer and Maclay Lower School Spanish teacher Claudia Willis. “They don't go through the negotiation process of the translating or questioning the meaning of what we are doing in class; this method works at a very high thinking level which requires constant inferring and it involves all the language skills. In all, AIM is a revolutionary system that empowers teachers and students, and I feel that is important to share with the community what we are doing as well as how with AIM they can achieve a major impact in their carriers as educators.”

Interested participants should register at enquriries@aimlanguagelearning.com or call 1-800-668-6288.  The workshop will take place in the Lower School Commons just inside the front entrance of Maclay.
